About this website

The renamed Critical Care and Retrieval (CCR) service (previously Aeromedical and Medical Retrieval/AMR) of Ambulance Tasmania (AT) serves critically ill and injured patients across Tasmania and it's waters in partnership with Rotorlift Aviation, TasPol, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter. We work closely with the on-road Ambulance Tasmania crews providing support and enhanced critical care capability to their excellent prehospital care. Our mission is to deliver excellent emergency and critical care, anytime, anywhere.

Our specialist Rotary-Wing Intensive Care Flight Paramedics (ICFPs) work with Pre-hospital and Retrieval Medicine (PH&RM) physicians as highly trained Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) teams which can be rapidly deployed across the state by helicopter, road or off-road vehicles from our base at Hobart International Airport. In addition, specialist Fixed-Wing ICFPs stationed at Launceston Airport work with critical-care trained doctors based out of Launceston General Hospital Intensive Care Unit (LGH ICU) to provide the Launceston-based Fixed-Wing component of CCR in partnership with the RFDS, providing vital interfacility transport, critical care support to rural and remote regions including the Bass Strait Islands, and interstate retrieval.

Consultant PH&RM physicians and specialist registered nurses work in the AT State Operations Centre to support retrieval coordination and provide medical consultation services to AT staff and rural healthcare facilities throughout Tasmania and the Bass Strait Islands. CCR RW ICFPs also provide Search and Rescue (SAR) and Wilderness Medicine expertise to the TasPol Westpac Rescue Helicopter's SAR missions.
